“We implore you on behalf of Christ,

be reconciled to God.”

— 2 Corinthians 5:20

Tuesday: 12:00N - 1:00pm

Wednesday: 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Thursday: 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Saturday: 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Communal celebrations of the Sacrament of Penance take place during Advent (December) and Lent (March).

The Sacrament of Penance, also known as Confession or Reconciliation, forgives sins and restores a person to the Church. Catholics are obliged to confess their grave sins at least once a year (Code of Canon Law, canon 989). Frequent confession of all sins, including venial or lesser ones, is encouraged (canon 988 §2).

Children receive the Sacrament of Penance for the first time in preparation for First Holy Communion (for more information, see “First Holy Communion”).

Bishop Knestout encourages anyone aware of sexual abuse of minors on the part of clergy or staff of the Diocese of Richmond to notify civil authorities by calling the Attorney General’s Clergy Abuse Hotline at 1-833-454-9064, and then encouraged to contact the confidential Victim Assistance Reporting 24 Hour Number 1-877-887-9603 or the Director of Safe Environment 804-622-5203 or by email at vac@richmonddiocese.org
